Red Bull Racing’s Shane van Gisbergen is the reigning champion in Australia’s Supercar championship, however before he turns a wheel in his title defence, he has another title to defend, and that is being the current winner of the Bathurst 12 hour at the infamous Mount Panorama.

Teaming up with fellow Kiwi Craig Baird and German GT racer Marco Engel, van Gisbergen will pilot Scott Taylor’s Mercedes next month in his bid to defend his 2016 victory.

Speaking to Speed Café ahead of the February 3 – 5 event, Engle revealed that the pressure is now on to prove they will be the hottest thing on the mountain…

What Scott (Taylor) has done together with AMG and HTP is great," Engel said. "He has assembled a great line-up of drivers and people and I'm very happy to be a part of it. It's up to us to prove that (one of the best line-ups on the grid). It's an incredible race and place at Mount Panorama. On paper, it puts us in the best possible position to challenge for the win."
