The second and final ten minute qualifying session for the day took place only minutes after the first one finished with Shane van Gisbergen finishing at the top for the second time here this morning.

Van Gisbergen’s first lap of this second session was three tenths faster than the time he set in the opening qualifying session, while Jamie Whincup was a mere 5 hundredths of a second behind. Craig Lowndes set a better first time and was sixth fastest on his first lap, but was still almost half a second slower than the Red Bull duo.

With only enough time for two decent timed laps drivers were trying to make the most of their tyres and with three minutes remaining, Mark Winterbottom came out to put in his first and only fast lap, fifth fastest.

Whincup was on track at the same time and went quickest of all in the first sector before going off into turn five and throwing away any chance of beating his Kiwi teammate. He went for another lap but wasn’t as fast in the opening sector.

Shane had an off track moment himself but the result stood…two from two!

"It's awesome!" he said. "The car's been fantastic all week."

Whincup will start alongside him again with Mostert, Coulthard, Davison, Winterbottom, Caruso, McLaughlin, Pye and Reynolds rounding out the top ten. Craig Lowndes went a bit better in this session and will start from 13th.
