Mitch Nichols has been fined $1,000 by the FFA after he made an offensive gesture to the crowd after the Wanderers' semifinal win over Brisbane.

Nichols was fined under the FFA National Code of Conduct after he ran 50 metres to give a two finger salute to the Brisbane fans after the Wanderers' 5-4 win.

He was free to play in the grand final the following week, despite the Roar filing a formal complaint.

Any future breach of the Code of Conduct could result in a more severe punishment.

The 27-year-old has seven business days to appeal the fine.
