It looks as if Valentino Rossi is out of the running for this years MotoGP championship after breaking his leg in an enduro training accident on Thursday.

Dr. Raffaele Pascarella who performed the repair on fractures of the tibia and fibula of Rossi's right leg, has confirmed that the 9 time world champion will need to rest for at least forty days, putting him off the track for up to 2 months.

“It will depend a lot on him but I think that he will have to rest at least 40 days,” he said. “However, he has already said he wants to return as soon as possible.”

The Doctor's will has always been strong and his desire to get back on the back could well see him back in action before the two months are up, however, at this stage it seems likely that fans won't see him back in action until October when we have three races all close together, Japan Australia and Malaysia.

Rossi will remain in hospital for a few more days before beginning intense physiotherapy, however, the pin put in to repair the damage will need to stay in place until the end of 2018 at the earliest.

Only 6 races remain in the 2017 MotoGP championship and Rossi, who will miss at least the next two, if not three, is already 26 points behind Andrea Dovizioso, who currently leads the standings.
