The V8 Supercars were out on track at the Sydney Motorsport Park today for the first official testing day of the 2017 Supercar Championship season.

By the time the day came to a close it was Rick Kelly’s Nissan sitting at the top of the timesheets when he set the fastest time ever recorded around the circuit.

“We did a lot of running on the new tyre today and feel that Dunlop has done a great job,” Kelly told the sports official website. “It (setting the fastest time) gives us good confidence because we had some work to do when we left this track late last year."

"On the old tyre, teams like Red Bull had a great handle on it, but we want to be the team that gets a handle on this tyre quicker than others. We need to go over everything we’ve learnt today and come out swinging in Adelaide.”

Scott McLaughlin put the DJR Penske Ford into a very close second while Fabian Coulthard finished third.

"Plenty of laps today! Feel like we have two strong Shell V-Power Racing Team cars heading to Clipsal!" Scotty said. "Great job by the team after a busy off season! Mannnn it was good to drive fast today!"

Chaz Mostert, who was fourth overall, was thrilled with the way his new car behaved...

"Awesome day being back in the yellow rocket, we tried a few things that might help us throughout the year! Can't wait for Radelaide," he said.🤙🏻
