1. Brisbane Roar (2)
The Roar, despite being held to a nil all draw by the Phoenix sit proudly atop of the A-League ladder and the power rankings. Truth be told their fixture with Wellington won't be remembered as a classic, but the Roar had their chances. Dimi Petratos is really living up to the promise he showed earlier in his career. The Roar looked slightly deflated after having a penalty awarded only to see it resinded by the officials. This is probably a case of two-points lost rather than one earned, but it was enough to earn them outright first place on the ladder.
2. Western Sydney Wanderers (3)
It seems strange considering they went ten games undefeated, however the Wanderers form of late hasn't been electric. They've recorded a few draws and now a sequence breaking loss to Melbourne City. This is hardly a season-ending loss by any stretch, and the way they fought back from two nil down to the best attacking side in the competition should be commended. They were unlucky not to score a third goal due to a horror refereeing decision but they did let their heads drop after the decision and did allow a goal, albeit is an absolute stunner.
3. Melbourne City (3)
City are once again flying high after a slight blip in form over the past few weeks. Harry Novillo's outrageous late winner was enough to knock off the equally high flying Wanderers in front of a boisterous crowd in Melbourne. After taking a two goal lead it looked a case of City by how many but an unfortunate error from otherwise brilliant shot stopped Thomas Sorensen allowed the Wanderers back into the game. At two-all it looked as though the Wanderers were well on top but young Novillo stepped up and slotted one of the goals of the season.
4. Sydney FC (4)
Sydney Fc continue to be the hardest side to predict in terms of potential performance after turning it on against the Jets. Ali Abbas wrapped up three points late in the first half on his return to the game after a long-term injury, but in all honesty they should have had the win parcelled much earlier. Sydney's defence has been rock solid over the past month but they've struggled in front of goal, however Holosko's 15th minute finish was an absolute gem. Incredibly they sit fourth just a win behind cross-town rivals the Wanderers, without hitting any great heights thus far this season. A win in this weekend's derby will see them overtake the side that has only lost once in over two months.
5. Adelaide United (5)
After a dismal start to the season Adelaide United are slowly making their way up the table without a great deal of notice. Their latest win may have some clue in on their abilities though as they outplayed Perth away from home. After falling behind inside the opening the minutes, Adelaide redoubled their efforts and drew level after Sergio Cirio tapped in after a brilliant passing move. Alex Grant's send off for Perth meant there was only one likely winner and Adelaide, on the back of 71% possession always looked like they'd do just that. Just five weeks ago this side was sitting last. They now sit sixth and haven't lost in six starts.
6. Central Coast Mariners (8)
The Mariners, after an insane 45 minute spell, lead the champions 3-0 at halftime and looked well on their way to an incredible win. However after the break they looked like young brothers chasing their older brothers and had to scramble to hold on for a point. That said they would be the much happier side with a point out of this fixture and have jumped two spots accordingly. Fans will be asking where that opening 45 minute performance came from after a pretty ordinary season to date. Although they did concede three second half goals, surely that first half effort has proven that they are capable of anything on their day.
7. Melbourne Victory (6)
The Victory played their part in a very entertaining game, and one of two halves against the Mariners in Geelong. At 3-0 down the Victory looked like they had no idea, yet looked every bit the defending champions in the second stanza and probably should have scored more than the three they did manage. Berisha's late equaliser was well deserved after a Kevin Muscat rocket at halftime had the desired effect. To think they finished with 70% possession in a game that was 3-all is insanity. Their second half dominance is shown by their having 15 corners to the Mariners one. On paper it should have been an easy victory, but in reality it was anything but.
8. Perth Glory (7)
The Glory have stuttered lately after a good spell of form. They took an early lead and even though it was all square at halftime, they seemed to be resigned to defeat after being reduced to 10 men before the break. They were left chasing shadows in the second half and ended with only 29% of the ball by fulltime. Adelaide were made to work hard but were worth their three points. Perth drop another three points at home and now sit six points outside the finals spots. Things are starting to look pretty grim although they did show recently that they are capable of putting some wins together.
9. Wellington Phoenix (9)
I'm not sure how, given their recent performances, but Wellington sit just one point outside the six. They are now winless in five, however a draw against the table-topping Roar should provide a real boost and may be the turning point of their season. They did manage 13 shots despite just 32% of the ball, which shows they did use it well. Dylan Fox's brilliant tackle on Henrique summed up the effort, but the final touch just wasn't there. They have a golden opportunity to record a win next week when they travel to Newcastle who seem to have forgotten how to score.
10. Newcastle Jets (10)
Luckily for the Jets there isn't an 11th spot or they would have it sewn up after AGAIN failing to find the back of the net. They're now an incredible 559 minutes without a goal, including six full games without troubling the scorers. That, at any level is a worrying statistic, especially in a league as close as the A-League. David Carney continues to provide a threat but the Jets need to either look to their youth ranks or act quickly in the upcoming transfer window as they search for goals. It's not like it's down to luck either, as they only had five shots on goal all game, without a single shot on target.
