It seems as if the SauberF1 team will be one man down when testing gets underway at the Barcelona Circuit at the end of the month with reports indicating that new signing Pascal Wehrlein will be forced to sit the session out due to injury.
According to reports on Motorsport.com the young German is still not completely healed following his accident in the recent Race of Champions that saw him come together with Felipe Massa and crash heavily into the barriers.
As a result Wehrlein suffered a back injury and it appears as if doctors have advised he sit out the coming test to ensure that it heals correctly as they continue to monitor his physical health.
I" have to skip the first wintertest due to medical advice because of a BACK issue. I feel sorry for the team but we'll come back stronger!" he said on Twitter.
The main reason behind this decision is the increased physical demands that the 2017 contenders put on the drivers.
