Johann Zarco is the most successful French rider in Grand Prix racing after winning various categories before making the move to the 125 class in 2009 with the WTR San Marino Team. While his first season didn’t yield a lot of strong results, the following season saw him finish in the points in the first eight races of the season and setting the fastest lap of his career in the Czech GP. He took his first podium in the discipline the following year when he finished third for Ajo Motorsport in the Spanish GP.

Moving up to Moto2 in 2012, he was the highest placed rookie with 95 points to his credit. The following year he took 2 podium finishes before moving to Caterham for 2014. Her he took 1 pole and 4 podium finishes on what many classed as an inferior bike.

He dominated the field in 2015 with Ajo Motorsport and took the title with ease and successfully defended his crown in 2016, becoming the first rider in the modern era to win back to back Moto2 titles. Like several riders, he has a signature move after a win, a backflip that won him a legion of fans.  Now he has made to the move to MotoGP with Tech3 Yamaha for the 2017 season.
