The Supercheap Auto Ford of Chaz Mostert set a new practice lap record on Friday at the Phillip Island 500 after topping the timesheet in the final free practice session.

Mostert had just one lap to attempt the fastest time of the day following last-minute changes to the car, and he certainly made the most of it, recording a best overall time that was under the one minute 30 second mark.

The Prodrive Racing team are still looking at more they can do to the car tonight to make it even better for young Chaz tomorrow. Tomorrow will be a long day so there’s plenty still they can work on to make the weekend even better for Mostert….

“It was a pretty good day for our guys today,” Chaz said. “It was one of those things, we didn’t really run tyres too much in the first session so there was a bit of a question mark as to how we’d go in the second one. We chucked a couple of sets of tyres at it in that second session so it was nice to get a good lap in and then to have another crack on greens at the end there. The car feels pretty promising this weekend but I still think we can make some little gains in some areas so we’ll go through the data tonight.”
