Chelsea and Everton are once again set to go toe to toe for a player, with both clubs eager to land Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho.

The £30m rated midfielder is the second player that both sides are competing for, with Napoli centre back Kalidou Koulibaly high on the Premier League clubs' list.

Everton are set to match any deal the Blues throw at Koulibaly, although the London club may have to do the chasing to land Carvalho as the Toffees seem to be the favoured destination.

The Merseyside club currently lead the race in the bid to sign the 24-year-old Portuguese international, although Chelsea have stepped up their interest following their failed bid to sign Roma star Radja Nainggolan.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has already signed Leicester midfielder N'Golo Kante this window, but is keen to add another midfield as he continues to stamp his mark on his new squad.
