According to reports on the BBC, McLaren has tentatively approached world champions at Mercedes about the possibility of making the switch back to their engine power and dropping current engine partner, Honda.

It is no secret that McLaren has had a tumultuous time of preseason testing at Barcelona this month where they were plagued with engine issues every day. They also know that if they don’t produce a car capable of winning races, there is a very strong possibility that their number one driver, Fernando Alonso will leave the team.

While it is only speculation at this stage and nothing is set in stone, it has to be remembered that McLaren were always on the podium when they had Mercedes power units at their disposal.
