Repsol Honda rider Marc Marquez topped the timesheets after the first day of action at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin Texas on Friday (local time) the reigning champion finishing almost three tenths of a second faster than his nearest rival, Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rookie Johann Zarco.

Third up for the session was the man who has won the opening two races of the 2017 MotoGP season, Maverick Vinales followed by his teammate, Valentino Rossi.

Marquez' teammate, Dani Pedrosa rounded out the top five with the first Ducati of Andrea Dovizioso finishing sixth quickest overall, almost eight tenths off the pace.
