Craig Lowndes has won the Barry Sheene Medal at the V8 Supercars Awards Gala in Sydney overnight.

Lowneds won the sport's best and fairest award for the fifth time, beating Championship winner Mark Winterbottom.

“He was a character, Barry,” Lowndes said.

“I remember when I first started in V8s that he was an amazing person.

“To be able to receive this medal, it’s a great honour. It’s something very special.”
