Six-time Bathurst winner Craig Lowndes will be honoured at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide this weekend.

Lowndes will break the record for the most number of rounds by a V8 Supercars driver.

The 41-year-old will overtake Russell Ingall's record when he makes his 251st round start this weekend.

"Craig Lowndes is not just a great of Motorsport but one of the greats of the Australian sport. He is a genuine household name and a firm favourite with fans across the country," V8 Supercars CEO James Warburton said.

“At nearly 42 years of age, Craig has shown incredible endurance and resilience. His efforts in 2015 where he won his 100th race and sixth Bathurst 1000 title and finished runner up to Champion Mark Winterbottom demonstrate there's little chance of him slowing down in the near future.

“The V8 Supercars family congratulates Craig on this wonderful achievement and looks forward to him being a big part of the sport for many years to come."
