According to reports in Autosport, former Mercedes Executive Technical Director, Paddy Lowe, who left the Brackley based squad at the end of 2016, is expected to be named in ‘the most senior technical position’ in the coming weeks.

It was rumoured before he left Mercedes that a switch to Williams was imminent, however the move is said to be on hold due to contractual negotiations in regard to his exact role in the Grove based squad.

Lowe's switch from Mercedes to Williams will see him return to the team where he started his Formula One career back in 1987.

The final piece of the puzzle is the hiring of former Ferrari man, James Allison, to take over Lowe’s role at Mercedes.
