Home hero Jorge Lorenzo is pulling out all the stops for his final race with Yamaha here at the Valencia Circuit in Spain this weekend, finishing the opening free practice session at the top of the leaderboard, just under half a second faster than his teammate, Valentino Rossi.

Lorenzo, who will move to Ducati to partner Andrea Dovizioso at the end of the season finale on Sunday, was four tenths up on Rossi with Marc Marquez’s Honda finishing close behind the Italian champion while Dovizioso finished fourth.

Marquez’s teammate, Dani Pedrosa made his return to the bike today after sitting on the sidelines since the Japanese Grand Prix where he suffered injuries in a crash. The Spanish racer took it easy for the opening session and ended up 12th fastest overall.

Aussie rider Jack Miller finished the session in 8th overall.
