Jamie Whincup topped the times for Red Bull Holden Racing in the opening practice session for this weekend’s Symmons Plains Supersprint by putting in an almost record breaking lap on a new set of soft Dunlop tyres.

The champion winning driver finished just ahead of DJR Penske’s Fabian Coulthard, who had held top spot until the moment of Jamie’s brilliant lap with the second Red Bull Holden of Shane van Gisbergen finishing third.

Nick Percat had a moment that called out the red flags momentarily, however thankfully he was uninjured in the incident.
