After months of training and preparation for the upcoming A-League season, teams don't have too long to wait now as the the opening match of the 2016/17 Hyundai A-League season is almost upon us.

With just two sleeps until Brisbane and Melbourne Victory face off at Suncorp Stadium on Friday October 7, we at Zero Striker thought it was time to get in our (very) early grand final predictions.

This season is widely tipped to be one of the tightest and most competitive that Australian football has ever seen, but in saying that, here are the two teams we believe will fight it out for the Championship come season's end.

Melbourne City

Despite most teams strengthening themselves over the off-season, no one did as well as Melbourne City.

Tim Cahill leads the inclusions, as Bruce Kamau, Luke Brattan, Fernando Brandan and Nicolas Colazo have all been added to Melbourne's already star studded squad.

Bruno Fornaroli re-signed with the club in one of the biggest deals of the entire off-season, which shows just how crucial he is to City's success.

They had defensive struggles last season and could only manage a semi-final loss to Adelaide United, however there's no doubt the quality City have brought in have enough class to propel Melbourne into their first ever A-League decider.

Perth Glory

There were a few teams that could take the second spot in the grand final alongside Melbourne City, but there's just something about the Glory that we like.

Kenny Lowe has built this squad over a number of seasons and has targeted Western Australian players with more than half the squad now playing in their own state, which surely has to play a part in the culture around the club.

Their depth in attack is something only mirrored by a couple of teams across the league, as Adam Taggart, Andy Keogh, Richard Garcia, Chris Harold and Diego Castro all have the potential to make big impacts this season.

Captain Rostyn Griffiths will sit in front of a back four that include Joseph Mills and Josh Risdon, while Socceroo Rhys Williams also comes back home and will slot into the starting XI.

There's no doubt this side has potential, and if they can stay healthy and Lowe's pieces come together, then the Glory have the quality to go all the way.
