The 2017 season opening Clipsal 500 is upon us and teams and drivers are gearing up for a brand new year of Supercar races, including Preston Hire's Lee Holdsworth.
After a setback in 2016 when he suffered a heavy shunt at Hidden Valley, Holdsworth has made sure that he is free from injury and as physically fit as he can be. Added to that he has spent a lot of time in the team's factory getting to know his new engineer for the coming season…
“There's been a massive amount of preparation over the off-season from the whole team. Personally, I've put a huge effort into coming back fitter than ever and making sure all my injuries from last year don't have any effect on my training. Apart from that I have spent a lot of time in the workshop with the team but have focussed primarily on building a strong relationship with my new engineer, Chris Stuckey.”
Like his racing colleagues, Lee took part in the recent one day test at Sydney Motorsport Park where he learnt as much as possible about the new Dunlop tyres that will be in use this year…
“The Sydney test was successful for our team, we had a productive day learning as much as we could about the new 2017 tyre compounds. I was really impressed with the team's step up and professionalism which gives me more confidence heading into the season.”
Now all that's left to do is make sure he qualifies well and gets a strong result…
“I'm really looking forward to getting back in the new look car at Clipsal. I think it's the best looking car on track! My goal for Adelaide is to come out of the weekend in the top ten in the championship. We need to have a solid start to the year and continue to build on that performance each round.”
This year's Clipsal 500 will see a top 10 Shootout on both Saturday and Sunday followed by a 250km SuperStreet race on each day.
