Just three weeks before the MotoGP paddock take to the Losail Circuit in Qatar for the 2017 season opener, Avintia Racing rider Hector Barbera has suffered a heavy crash in testing and broken his left collarbone.

The Spaniard, who was testing at the Valencia circuit ahead of the season opener, has been flown to Barcelona where he will undergo surgery to repair the damage, with doctors scheduled to put a plate on his collarbone on Thursday morning local time.

The final pre-season test will take place at the Losail Circuit in ten days’ time. If Barbera is unfit, the team will more than likely call upon Michele Pirro to take his place.
