Jose Mourinho made a winning Premier League start as Manchester United boss with a comprehensive opening victory at Bournemouth.

Midfielder Juan Mata, who was substituted after coming on in last week's Community Shield win, opened the scoring with a tap-in after Simon Francis' error.

Wayne Rooney headed the second before new signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic marked his United league debut with a goal from 25 yards. Adam Smith scored a consolation goal for the Cherries.

United were without world-record $150m signing Paul Pogba through suspension, while midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan started on the bench, with Mata preferred.

Liverpool held on to beat Arsenal in a stunning Premier League opening weekend encounter at Emirates Stadium finishing 4-3 in favour of Jurgen Klopp's men.

Theo Walcott fired in the first goal for the Gunners in the 31st minute, moments after missing a penalty, after being fouled in the box by under fire Spanish left-back Alberto Moreno. The penalty was subsequently saved by Belgium International Simon Mignolet.

Philippe Coutinho equalised with a brilliant free-kick before Adam Lallana fired in after the break, courtesy of a brilliant assist by new signing Georginio Wijnaldum.

Coutinho poked in his second following a Barcelona-esque 19 pass move before Sadio Mane slammed a brilliant solo goal on his Premier League debut for the club.

The gunners replied through substitute Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Calum Chambers but it wasn't enough to rescue a point, Liverpool winning just their second game at the Emirates in ten attempts.
