About:

Son of the famous rally champion Carlos Sainz, the younger Spaniard showed early on that he much preferred open wheelers, starting with karting and becoming part of the Red Bull Junior programme in 2010. Racing in the Formula BMW Europe he received multiple accolades for his performances taking 3 poles, 2 wins and 2 fastest laps from just 9 races. He moved to Formula 3 in 2012, followed by GP3 and Formula Renault 3.5 before finally making the move to Formula One in 2015. Joining the Scuderia Toro Rosso team, often referred to as the Red Bull Racing junior team, he become partner to Max Verstappen. However, when the promotion to the main team came up because Daniil Kvyat was underperforming, it was Max that was promoted while Carlos remained with Toro Rosso.
