He might be leaving Renault for McLaren at the end of the 2020 Formula One season, but Daniel Ricciardo is still hoping to leave an impression at the end of the season – literally.

Speaking to Formula One media ahead of this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona, Ricciardo revealed that he and team boss Cyril Abiteboul had a bet on whether he can get a podium finish this year.

“This has really broken out now,” Riccardo laughed

“It's a bit foggy, but I do believe he chooses placement and size (of the tattoo), but I choose the design.”

When asked about what sort of design that he might have in store for his boss, Ricciardo said that he had not come to a decision.

“I don't know, I think it will be something probably a little bit spontaneous, spur of the moment,” he said.

“But it's got to be something funny that when he looks at it, he shakes his head and it's like, ‘remember those times?' One of those ones.”

Since joining Renault at the start of the 2019 season, Ricciardo has not made the podium after winning seven races at Red Bull between 2014 and 2018.

He has however finished fourth twice - Italy in 2019 and a couple of weeks ago at Silverstone for the British Grand Prix.

“It's a tattoo and he does not have any, so it's a big deal for Cyril.”
