After finishing on the podium in the fist half of the Clipsal 500 on the weekend, James Courtney came home in a strong fourth place in race 2, securing a nice pile of points for himself and the newly branded Mobil 1 HSV Racing team.
Completing his second trouble free pit stop, Courtney returned to the circuit for the remainder of the race, only to find himself in fourth behind the Supercheap Auto entry of Chaz Mostert.
Despite all his best efforts, James was unable to close the gap and settled for the first place off the podium….
“In qualifying we were sixth, the shootout fifth and then fourth in the race, so we were going forward, but just lacked a little bit of pace,” he explained. We struggled in the mid part of the race, and lost too much ground to the guys in front. We made some changes in the final stop, and the car was really hooked up, but we had to save fuel.”
“We were catching Chaz late, but finished just off the podium. Still, it was a great bag of points from the weekend, the car is straight, we learnt a lot, so I’m happy, and proud of the guys.”
