After having the captaincy taken off him by manager Alan Pardew, Mile Jedinak has spoken for the first time about the decision.

The Crystal Palace and Australian midfielder has been the captain of Palace for the past four years, and said the announcement did come as a shock to him.

“I was surprised, obviously. When you do a job with full commitment, it's never nice," Jedinak said.

“When there's something that you regarded very highly throughout your career, especially with where the football club was at and where it is now, to be in that position has been a huge privilege and something I did with full commitment.”

“You give your all to the task and hopefully that's enough but sometimes things get taken out of your hands and one way or another you have to accept it and get on with it and focus on the task at hand.”

“It was a bit of a shock and I'm someone who has got a lot of pride so it wasn't the nicest thing that's for sure.”

Pardew has decided to hand the armband over to defender Scott Dann, who's been at the club since January 2014.

The move has called into question the relationship the manager and former captain share, although Jedinak was quick to say there's no ill feelings between the pair.

“We are professionals and have a working relationship. It's more about just getting on with the job and doing that when called upon,” Jedinak said.
