It doesn't make any difference where Jenson Button qualifies later today in his one off appearance for the McLaren Honda team, because as well as inheriting Fernando Alonso's car for the weekend, he has also inherited the Spaniard's impending penalty.

Jenson has been handed a whopping 15 place grid penalty after Honda changed the MGH-U and turbocharger after Thursday's opening two free practice sessions. This incurs a 15 place grid drop regardless as it was the fifth power unit to be fitted to the McLaren already this season.

"It's awful for him and for McLaren as well," McLaren boss Eric Boullier said on Sky TV's coverage of third practice. "It was not expected at all."
